The village of Wass
Byland Abbey Welcome to the village of Wass (formally Byland with Wass) which nestles comfortably in a small south facing valley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors.
The village of Wass

We are a small community of about 100 people comprising two parts, the village itself and a short distance away, the impressive ruins of Byland Abbey, which is owned by English Heritage. In spite of our small size we have a church and an excellent pub / restaurant - The Stapylton Arms. We also have a new village hall which is available for hire for parties, wedding receptions and other events. An annual schedule of local events brings the community together. There is good holiday accommodation in various cottages in and around the village. Stanbrook Abbey in Wass is now situated in new buildings on the bank above the village.
